Second Journal Entry:
The Devil-Lord Strahd sent us on our way to meet with indigenous travel-folk known as the Vistani. He offered my fellows treasure and favor to capture Azalin Rex, another great evil that seeks to usurp power from him in these lands, no doubt. I would not hear anything of such offers. After asking the direction of these people, I walked away and heard nothing of his foul temptations. I only hope that my companions will be strong enough to resist his evil. Had I not packed enough starches for the trip, so that I would not have to subsist solely on the iron rations I had found. Finally we met with the Vistani, and though they were a lively folk, there were many hard workers among them willing to listen to the word of the Raven Queen. I know not what the others did, though Malice did find himself in the stocks for his troubles. Thankfully, a fellow by the name of Four-Fingered Cecil provided much direction to me in what I could do to help around camp, and the travels were arduous enough that I did not feel the need to cleanse myself of any sinful thoughts. I did help more than few Vistani with infections they had acquired, but hopefully the cure is enough to convince them to not acquire such again.
We were let off on a road to Moderntshire, to find a potential ally by the name of Van Richten. Strahd spoke of him with bemusement, and I do not believe them to be allies. Nor did he speak of him with the same wrath he mentioned Azalin’s name. He may not be on either side of their war, but with many evils in this plane, who knows if he’d consider aiding outsiders as we.
As we traveled down the path, we came upon a cemetery. The land was thick with fog, and unfortunately evil magic as well, as soon undead and constructs assaulted us for our mere presence in their territory. Thankfully, my companions and I were aided by the arrival of one by the name of Donovan, a paladin of a deity named Ezra. The knight took his axe to the terrible fiends as effectively as my companions had unleashed their own armaments. Though it was painful a battle, we were able to bring the lot of them low. Blessed be the Raven Queen and the power she has bestowed upon me, as I would not be alive without it. Donovan mentioned himself to be an enemy of the many evils that haunt these lands, and joined us on the way to Mordentshire. He also spoke of the Faith of Ezra, and I believe that I can worship within their halls and still offer supplication to the Raven Queen, in my own way. If I must, I will flagellate such heresy away from my thoughts away from the prying eyes of any clerics of this faith.
Now, we must find this Van Richten.
